Bonjour, Mauritius. Six thirty

We had a plan today - to do nothing. Last few days have been full of daytrips and other activities, so a day on the beach and balcony seemed like a long waited vacation.

We went for a run and swim, had breakfast and sat down on our balcony. By the way, the ocean during sunrise is especially pleasant - light blue silky water, no blazing sun and hardly any people around.

We had a siesta, ate some salami, cheese, crackers and everything else we had in the fridge, decided to spend the afternoon in Grand Baie  and eat there dinner as well. I had chosen two creole places and after a short no-shopping-tour we made our way to the first one. Turned out they only open it at 6:30pm and were not open today even for lunch, because the chef didn't show up. So, we went to the other one. They only had pizza on offer, because ... guess, what - the chef didn't show up and the replacement chef only knew how to make pizza. Since there had been few more places on the way, we thought of checking out, what they offer. Well, at 5pm nothing. But they all would be delighted to welcome us back at 6:30pm ir tomorrow for the lunch from 12pm to 3pm. Like in France - you eat when it's time to eat or you go hungry. Same rules as in kindergarden.

We finally found one that was open, the chef had shown up and the kitchen was operatiivselt. Apparently the chef there wasn't hindu, because the main reason, why thay failed to show up today was the big hindu festival on Monday - already few days ago they have started their pilgrimage to the sacred lake to be there latest on Monday. In regards to that also the travel agencies had warned us that we shouldn't plan any daytrip for Monday, as you'd be sitting in the traffic jam most of the time waiting after the hindus on their pilgrimage.

ANyway - we ordered crispy cheese rolls (very good, even though they are not very generous with cheese), chili cakes (I didn't think much of them, but Scott seemed to like), grilled lamb (that lamb should have exercised a bit more to loose some of the fat tho) and dorada in butter sauce (those butter sauces are delicious here!). We had chocolate mousse for dessert and while eating that, "watched" The sun setting somewhere further away. Being the ever absentminded tourists, we ended up walking out with a cute heart shaped dressing bowl. With some lamb fat and a bone we also made a dog happy, who was looking at us through the dinner with those sad puppy eyes that made the kids in Rwanda pale.
