Cambodian Chronicles. Cashew apples

Originally, the plan was to take a motorcycle tour around the island today, but we decided, just to be on the safe side, to take it easy and lounge around on the beach and in the room.

Our resort is full of fruit trees, constantly dropping overripe ones, which then casually ferment until picked up and thrown out. So, stepping outside always feels like stumbling into a cider factory. A quick Google search revealed that these are cashew apples. On the juicy apple, there's a tiny nest where the cashew nut grows. Since the edible fruits are too high up and only those on their way to becoming cider fall down, I haven't dared to try them yet. Although, I vaguely recall from some Malaysia trip that I have eaten that apple part.

For lunch, we had pizza and fries, and in the evening, we decided to try our resort's highly advertised BBQ. For 18 euros, they brought six skewers to the table, each with three tiny, half a bite size meat chunks, a couple of slices of bell pepper, and a piece of pineapple. In addition, there was a salad and bread buffet with those same bell peppers raw, green tomato slices, and two kinds of buns. For about 27 euros, we could have gotten two shrimp, two calamari, and two fish skewers, each with three tiny pieces of fish, bell pepper scraps, and pineapple chunks.
